Talisman House, Publishers was established in 1987 by Edward Foster. Seeking to give a voice to those on the fringes of literature and poetics, Talisman continues to be a radical voice in the world of Poetry, Fiction, Theory, and Criticism. 

Edward Foster, b. 1942, is a widely published critic, essayist and poet. He is the founding editor of Talisman: A Journal of Contemporary Poetry and Poetics, Talisman House, Publishers, and Jensen Daniels, Publishers.

For many years he was a professor of history and the Associate Dean of Administration at the College of Arts and Letters at the Stevens Institute of Technology. He was also a visiting professor at Drew University Graduate Faculty and at Beykent University (Istanbul), and a Fulbright lecturer at Haceteppe University in Ankara, Turkey, and at the University of Istanbul.

Foster has also spent time as the co-director of the Russian/American Cultural Exchange Program. He has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards from Columbia University, The National Endowment for the Arts, The National Endowment for the Humanities, The USIA Arts program, The New Jersey Historical Commission, Choice, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Fulbright Commission, The Greve Foundation, The Fund for Poetry, The Trubar Foundation, The Romanian Cultural Instutute, and The Turkish Ministry of Culture.

His poetry has been translated into, and published in, many languages, including single-author volumes in Slovenian, Romanian, and Russian. He has served on the Advisory Committee for the Middle East of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars and the Fulbright Committee for Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.
